Kaufmann Streamborn E-newsletter
News, Announcements & Fishing Report! |
We've been chomping at the bit and tempering expectations
through a very odd winter, but at long last conditions
are superb for native winter steelhead pursuits. On top
of that little piece of phenomenal news, trout are starting
to move and March Browns are upon us. It's our own little
slice of March Madness!

One of the newest sets of materials to hit our shores,
Eumer
Tubes and Tube Fly Materials are an exciting new system
with which to tie tube flies. Whether you simply a set
of plastic tubes for simple swing flies or you're looking
for something to tie a deep-diving sculpin with, Eumer
has the tube to tie with. We had a lot of fun with Joe
Fitzpatrick tying Eumer tube flies in our booth at the
Fly Tyers Expo this past weekend and we're looking forward
to seeing more and more creations as you get ahold of
these materials yourself! |

Have
you been dying to get on the water and go trout fishing?
We've got a great option for you. Jump on board a boat
with Matt Ramsey and Scott Nelson of Two Dudes Fly Fishing
and float the McKenzie
or Willamette Rivers. Home to the earliest heavy hatches
in the state, the McKenzie
and Willamette Rivers are fishing extremely well.
Heavy hatches of March Browns, Blue Dun's and early Caddis
fuel great fishing a month before many rivers will even
open for trout. Here's a message from the fellas:
"The Lower McKenzie River is nice and low this year.
Healthy numbers of Native Redside Rainbows and Cutthroat
Trout are in predictable late winter lies and are starting
to feed throughout the water column. For a few hours each
mid-day, casting big parachute March Brown imitations
is about as effective as any tactic. As Spring fills in
we will follow the hatch up river, then fall back down
river, after the smolt migration, for the start of the
big green Caddis hatch. Over the course of the next 6
weeks I will be covering about 40 contiguous miles of
the McKenzie River. There are 4 distinctly different floats
offering a wide array of fly fishing opportunities. Most
of the fishing we do is from modern, fully equipped drift
boats, but wade fishing spots are abundant as well, especially
in these low water years. The daily rate for 2 anglers
is $395 and includes luch. Ask Jerry about the 2 Dudes
2 Boat Special for 4 anglers $720. Good luck this spring. |
Hopefully you're staying tuned to the ever-growing and
evolving section of our site known as "Jerry's
Travel Specials". If so, and I know there's a
couple of you, you've already seen the spectacular offers
from Henry's
Fork Lodge in Idaho and Royal
Wolf Lodge in Alaska. We'll continue to keep posting
offers as they become available. If you're in the mood
for travel, it is a bountiful time. Also, please check
out our "Hosted
Trips" section, Jad has had two seats open up
for April 28th to May 5th for Christmas
Island and Joel additionally has 2 spots open for
Los
Roques, May 16th to May 23rd - the best tide week
of the year!
